Companhia Industrial
Fluminense
(CIF)

CIF was founded in 1912 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and in 1960 was re-located to Brazil's Minas Gerais state where it began processing tin ore, niobium and tantalum. In 1979 the company was bought by the Metallurg Group, and began producing high-quality aluminium grain refiners, master alloys, addition tablets, tantalum and niobium oxides.

CIF's production plant is located in São João del Rei, Brazil; the company also owns one mine (MIBRA) and one hydroelectric power plant. Over 150 people are employed at the production plant, 55 in the mine and six in the commercial office in São Paulo.

The company’s strengths lie in the advantages of a flexible operation facility, competitive labor costs, and access to raw materials and inexpensive hydroelectric power. CIF is the market leader in Brazil, Venezuela and Argentina, with exports to South Africa, North America, Central America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

CIF’s primary products are aluminium alloys, alloying tablets, and tantalum/niobium oxides. The company is also a major producer of aluminium grain refiners in South America, and has a growing presence in innovative products, such as 8% boron aluminium.
